Persatuan Destiny untuk Kanak-Kanak Sibu
The Inaugural Teacher Training in Sibu, Sarawak.
Dignity's dedicated team of ten, including founder Petrina, travelled to Sibu, Sarawak, to empower grassroots educators, curriculum creators, and community workers with a full 5-day Montessori approach training.
After extensive preparation, materials were prepared to over 60 dedicated participants, including those serving indigenous and stateless children, to promote child-centered learning.

The Bountiful Eye Foundation was delighted to observe such revolutionary teacher training finally taking place in Sibu, Sarawak after much discussions and planning to unite the two similar-named NGOs, Dignity for Children and Destiny for Children!
As always, TBEF plays a role in identifying actual needs and bringing together the relevant partners' skills to help more children. We do not need to reinvent the wheel; instead, we bring together people who already know how to mitigate the situation.

The Trainers

To teach means to learn twice. A teacher's impact extends into eternity; never knows where it ends. Education is not the filling of a pail, but the starting of a fire. They may forget what you said, but they will remember how you made them feel.

Petrina (Bottom Right), the Co-Founder and current CEO and Principal of Dignity for Children, has been working with poor children for 25 years. She reminiscence Dignity's struggles twenty-five years ago, which may be mirrored for undocumented children in Sibu Sarawak, but first teachers must be trained and devoted to the children.

The Teachers

A excellent teacher can encourage children to read, instill a love of languages, make maths and science enjoyable, and transform history classes into engaging stories. For many teachers, one of their most basic tasks is to motivate their pupils to like learning. However, a teacher's motivating impact extends beyond the classroom, it takes one life to influence another.

Tracy Anak Tukok and Dora Anak Siban (The two ladies leaning side-by-side), among many other teachers, flew all the way from Kuching, Sarawak to attend the five-day Montessori teacher training. The teacher training session had a total of 60 participants.

Many thanks to the Dignity for Children Foundation team for organising the event. Thank you, Yang Berbahagia Mdm. Irene Chang, for sharing your supportive comments and BEM Hosanna Church, which provided the facilities and all of the participants who came from near and far to learn and serve the children.

Bottom right photo; They had already met many years ago when Destiny For Children was first established, and now they were meant to meet again with the goal of training teachers in Montessori teaching techniques for undocumented children in Sibu, Sarawak.

In order to ensure that the training initiative is not in vain, the Dignity team has taken extra measures by delivering more in-depth Montessori training to all DFC teachers via Zoom workshops, followed by assignments to complete. Indeed, the training curriculum requires many hours of preparation and careful processes to ensure that the teachings are followed through.

Next, a team of trainers will visit again and provide follow-up sessions, as well as placing a teacher in the DFC facility for two weeks to monitor their development. Kudos to the Dignity team for their passion and dedication to train DFC teachers, which indirectly benefits the needy children in Sibu.
